Mahe Island Guide
The island of Mahe
is one of the islands making up the archipelago of Seychelles. The capity city
called Victoria, or sometimes Port Victoria is also situated in the island of
Mahe. This will be the first island in Seychelles that you will step on as you
arrive by plane at the Seychelles International Airport. Buses, taxis, private
cars, and other modes of transportation are already available after you checked
out from the airport. Mahe has an area of one hundred and five square
kilometers, making it as the largest island in whole Seychelles. There are at
least seventy-two thousand inhabitants here in Mahe which is considered as the
90% of Seychelles’ total population. The name of the island came from the name
of a governor in Mauritius who is Mahe de Labourdonnais.
One of the most famous landmarks of Mahe is the world-renowned luxury hotel
called Banyan Tree. From here, you can get to see the breath-taking view of the
Indian Ocean just by standing at one of the terraces of the hotel's suites.
There are also other luxury hotels and resorts in Mahe including the Le
Meridien Fisherman Cove, and the Labriz Silhouette Seychelles. But for those
who are in a tight budget, you may still enjoy Mahe by renting some of the
budget hotels, resorts, apartments, and villas scattered all over the island.
More accommodations in the Mahe Island can be found at
Seychelles Hotels guide.
Mahe is also filled with so many natural delights. These special areas in Mahe
also serve as tourist attractions. The Morne Seychellois is the tallest peak in
the island. It is nine hundred five meters high and it lies at the national
park of the same name - the Morne Seychellois National Park. There is also
another national park located in Mahe. The Ste Anne Marine National Park can be
reached by bus or taxi. If you are coming from Victoria, within five minutes,
you can be at the gates of the Ste Anne Marine National Park.
You will never be frustrated if you visited Seychelles because you heard about
the stunning beaches of the archipelago. In Mahe alone, the Beau Vallon is
considered as the best beach in the country of Seychelles. The water is deep,
making it perfect for diving and snorkeling. Tourists also love to swim at the
waters of Beau Vallon because of its warm temperature and calm water condition.
There are tons of hotel accommodations at a very low price where you can spend
your night or your whole tropical vacation.
In the northern part of the Mahe Island is where most lands are currently under
renovation. This is also the area where most locals of Mahe live. Housing
programs are made by the government in order to meet the high demands of
housing in the island. But they are very careful that they will still preserve
the beauty of the beaches and the whole natural magnificence in this part of
Mahe. This is also where the mentioned peak (the Mrone Seychellois) is
situated. Mahe offers nothing but pure relaxation, enjoyment and fun.
